- Most schools require teachers to maintain a set of class pages on the school website. Visit a school website and look at a few class pages. Write a paragraph about what kinds of information you see publicly, (students and parents likely have access to information you will not see without log-in privileges). Include a screen shot and link to the site. Be sure to identify the school and grade of students.
- A paragraph about how you envision yourself using technology to accomplish your professional responsibilities more efficiently and effectively. Refer to the podcast and the textbook for ideas.
- Last week, we visited the Technology Sandbox. Write a paragraph about how one or more technology that you experienced could be used in the classroom.
This is the Lawton Chiles High school website (where I went to highschool). It's a regular 9-12 high school.
The website gives links to all the different educational departments, all the different sports, calendars and resources like the honor code and mission statements. You can find cafeteria menus, AP class websites and dual enrollment websites, as well as externing applications. So, basically anything you could possibly need to know about this website. It's very well-organized, provides links to other school websites the other students may use, and provides easy to access and up to date hubs for events.
Honestly, I can really see myself using Diigo for lesson-planning reasons. It reminds me of Pinterest, but a little less busy and over-whelming. I also see myself using Pinterest, however, for more creative purposes. I already use Google Calendar for personal reasons, so I think I would continue using that for organization reasons.
One of the parts of the Technology Sandbox that stuck with me was using VR headsets for expensive or dangerous learning experiences. I never thought of VR beyond a sort of novelty, fun technology. However, they proved to us that VR could be used to teach driver's ed, or could teach historical events or geography in an immersive way. They can stand in historical reenactments of wars, hike Mt. Everest, or peek over the edge of the Grand Canyon.
