Adaptive technology is used to support different styles of learning. This can mean those with disabilities, or those with special learning needs. This can mean a program that reads text out loud, either for those with sight impairments, dyslexia, or other reading problems. It can mean a program that, in the opposite way, adds captions to videos or other audio things for those with hearing disabilities. In contrast to Assistive technology, adaptive tech is usually just a version of an existing technology to assist special learners. I feel like I've worked with students who were allowed to use tablets or audio versions of texts to help them through their learning, but never anything super obvious.
A difficulty of adaptive tech that the teacher has to face is that it's extra time and effort that the teacher has to put in to one or two specific students. Also, especially when working with younger students, they'd have to offer explanations to the other students as to why they weren't also allowed to use whatever technology the other student could.
