PLN

The first PLN tool I see as extremely useful to teachers is Pinterest. Pinterest is easy to use, easy to create separate clusters of organization, and offers lots of group thinking with the social media feature. People can add comments or tags as they Repin things to their own boards. There's anything teacher related on their, from tips for decorating a classroom to actual worksheet printouts and lesson plans.

The Teaching Channel is a second tool teachers can use. I've used this in my Intro to Education class to learn how best to observe teachers when I go into classrooms. There are videos breaking down different teaching styles and how those work for different students. It's a very literal way of teaching people the social interaction parts of teaching.

    PINTEREST IS THE BEST!!!! I used it too for my blog. It is funny because I used to make fun of my om for using it so much, and now I use it regularly...
    I saw the teaching channel too, I have never used it or even heard of it before, but it looks really helpful for teachers who learn visually , and for new teachers who might not know how to handle certain types of students or situations.

Most schools require teachers to maintain a set of class pages on the school website. Visit a school website and look at a few class pages.  Write a paragraph about what kinds of information you see publicly, (students and parents likely have access to information you will not see without log-in privileges).   Include a screen shot and link to the site .  Be sure to identify the school and grade of students. A paragraph about how you envision yourself using technology to accomplish your professional responsibilities more efficiently and effectively. Refer to the podcast and the textbook for ideas. I believe that I’d have the most ease with teaching the technology standards that have to do with consuming media, rather than with creating media. Although I feel confident with producing media for my own projects and assignments, I don’t know that my confidence is strong enough to teach that to students yet. However, if I was asked to teach students how to analyze the differences in how a poem conveyed meaning in written form versus in spoken, or recorded form, I’d be in the zone. I also think I’d be particularly prepared to teach about vocabulary and context. I consider myself to be really understanding of etymology and context. The biggest skill I learned from the newsletter was how to put together little stories like this without context or prompts.
